Hey Bro, why don't you blog about it?


Friday night, someone named Brad Baker became a bit whiney that all the sudden I was blogging on a regular basis along with likes of David, Cory, Ashley, etc..

So I must say, if you refer to my first post ever, I only started blogging because my DAD has a blog FIRST. 

Their, I have handed out the mad props that he deserves.

100 Acre Woods Rally

Today Mom, Dad, & I loaded up and drove south of Steelville to the "100 Acre Woods Rally."

It was very cold out, mid-20's, and we were standing out their from about 10Am until noon. When we got there it was not snowing but by the time we left the ground had been covered with snow, making it for an interesting race.

Rally racing is done based on time (sort of like a time trial instead of head to head) so the cars come by in about one minute intervals with the occasional cars that have caught up with each other.

Yes Man

Last night, we went and saw Yes Man featuring Jim Carrey. The movie was pretty funny, I would definitely recommend seeing it. It had few slow parts, as far as I could remember, but it had somewhat of a more serious side to it than some of Jim Carrey's other movies. 

Here is an overview:

Jim Carrey stars as Carl Allen, a guy whose life is going nowhere—the operative word being “no”—until he signs up for a self-help program based on one simple covenant: say yes to everything...and anything. Unleashing the power of “YES” begins to transform Carl’s life in amazing and unexpected ways, getting him promoted at work and opening the door to a new romance. To Weldon Springs!

This morning I took my first "loaded test run" on my touring bike. I didn't haul camping gear and clothes, instead I hauled reams of paper and my Business Law book to simulate having a loaded bike. 20-25 pounds of weight is what I had on the bike. 

It was a lot of fun, 3 hours of riding, about 37 miles covered and it was probably about 37 degrees:P

I started from my dorm, but caught the Katy Trail at Frontier Park in Saint Charles. The 3 miles from Frontier Park until the Park Avenue Bridge were pretty brutal. Most of it was very damp and moist and the tires sank in very easily. This made it for a slow few miles and everything that the fenders didn't catch, got covered in mud.


Stopped to air up the rear tire about 2 miles out of Saint Charles when I was heading East.




Surviving Dirk

Last night at Lindenwood was the screening of a movie called "Surviving Dirk."

Here is the Description:

Dirk, a psychotic, pop-culture obsessed madman, fixates on everyman Gary Goodman. In an effort to become close to Gary, Dirk creates an outdoor survival reality television show with himself as the survival expert, then ensures that Gary is the "wining" contestant. With the help of Johnny Boy, Dirk takes Gary away from his family and into the deep Midwestern woods for the greatest lesson of survival Gary will ever encounter... if he actually survives it!

I wish they would have told us before the movie that it was somewhat of a joke, and the director and cast had definitely not taken it seriously! But, overall, for what they had to work with it was pretty good.

10 things that have been happening (defining the pictures):
  1. We had band practice the other day, good music is happening.
  2. I've been upping the amount I bike/work out in hopes of doing some serious riding when it's warm out.
  3. I saw Wizard of the Oz at LU. The second half was much better than the first half, but overall, pretty good. I didn't get to write about the Diviners, but that blew my mind. 
  4. I am starting to get tired of this cold crap. 30 Degrees or colder everyday? WTF!
  5. My mind has been wandering to the idea of spending this summer living on my bicycle. A week or two after school is out I would head west on the Katy Trail, then head further west into KS followed by travels to the south. I would travel south to Mountain Home, AR and meet the family for our summer vacation. From vacation I could cycle NorthEast up to the Transamerican Trail and head East to the Coast and back before school starts. I think it would be a crazy adventure.
  6. Google is still taking over the world and still blowing my mind when they do it.
  7. I would really like to eventually live a 90% Car-Free lifestyle. I don't drive my car much now, but I think it would be pretty awesome to not need a car. If this summers pulls through, it will be the turning point in that revelation. I did ride my bike to the Laundrymat to wash my clothes the other day, that was pretty nifty cool. 
  8. My roommate (charlie) says he will stop drinking ftw, I doubt it.
  9. I think 98% of the kids in my Finance class need to go back to High School to learn how to read questions thoroughly, do basic math, and not blurt out in the middle of class like on Nemo when the Pelicans are yelping "mine." But instead it's random numbers that are always wrong.
  10. Late of the Pier & LCD Soundsytem are doing something correct and their tunes come out righteous.

First bicycle tour in the works?


March 6 - 8 will be my first ever "tour" & it will be self supported.

I wouldn't honestly classify it as a tour, because it's only 3 days/2 nights. It's more of a "test run." I ordered panniers today and a 2 man tent yesterday. I will be riding the Katy Trail from Saint Charles to Jefferson City. Then I will catch a ride back to school on Sunday night:P

I'm pretty stoked on it.

I will not be driving my car anywhere, all travels will be by bicycle, public transport, someone else's car, or by foot.

23 MPH Winds

Today, on my bike ride I had the beautiful pleasure of 5 miles, out of 12, straight into a 23 mph headwind. It made a short ride, very long, but none the less it was 60 degrees and was a very nice ride.
